New study line teaches entrepreneurship in English

Bifröst University will be offering a Micro-credential on Entrepreneurship in Iceland fall semester 2025, taught by EoM's Arnar Sigurðsson, designer Michael Hendrix and entrepreneur Fida Abu Libdeh.

From the Bifröst University website:

"Entrepreneurship and innovation present themselves as a way for an individual to become a creative participant in society by producing new products or services. These micro-credential courses are designed for anyone who wants to understand how to take the first steps towards transforming their ideas into reality, gaining insights into the startup ecosystem in Iceland, and acquiring a critical understanding of how innovation and entrepreneurship can shape our society".

These three BA level courses will be taugth by Arnar Sigurðsson - founder of East of Moon, R. Michael Hendrix - designer at Huldunótur and former director at IDEO as well as Fida Abu Libdeh - CEO at GeoSilica Iceland.

The intention behind the course is to give more people the tools to access to Iceland's entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Arnar Sigurðsson:

I've always been a little wary of promoting "becoming your own boss" as a way for immigrants to get access to a new country. The lack of traditional pathways into society is what should be fixed, not sending everyone off to DIY.
To be honest, I really don't like the phrase "be your own boss" for starting a business either - because as any small business owner or freelancer will tell you, you can become much more dependent and subjected to the running of your business than you'd every be working as an employee.

However, I have seen how starting a new project, whether it's a business or organisation or some sort of social solution can be a way for people to feel part of a new place, claim an identity and share their skills and passions with others in a way the available jobs in their community didn't offer them.

So I was happy when Anna Hildur asked me to join teaching this new study program in English about Entrepreneurship in Iceland. I'm also very much looking forward to learning from my more experienced co-teachers who both have moved to Iceland, either recently or long time ago: Fida Abu Libdeh and R Michael Hendrix.
