VOICES Podcasting Course

The first activity of the Erasmus+ Project "Voices from the Fields" held in Iceland by East of Moon.

From the 10th to the 14th of March 2025, East of Moon hosted a week long podcasting course in our home of Hafnarhaus, bringing together youth workers and creative individuals from across Europe to explore the power of podcasting as a tool for community storytelling and social change.

This training was part of the project Voices from the Fields: Stories of Social Change in Rural and Remote Communities—a collaborative Erasmus+ initiative, co-funded by the European Union. It aims to support youth-led media creation and storytelling, allowing young people from rural and remote communities, who are often left out of mainstream narratives, to connect and share their experiences.

In addition to participants from Iceland, we were joined by our partner organisations: Absentia from Stintino, Sardinia (Italy), and Asociación Juvenil Illipula from Purchena, Andalusia (Spain).

Podcast course activities

Over the course of the week, participants worked together to explore podcasting from concept to creation—from finding an angle and learning the basics of technical production, to editing, dissemination, and critical media literacy. At the end of the course, participants had a short, finished podcast episode that they were able to share with the rest of the group. These feedback sessions formed another crucial part of the learning experience, allowing time for reflection and further development of constructive dialogue.

Podcast course activities

We at East of Moon have created two of our own podcast series, Satellites and Fellow Travellers, and view podcasts as a powerful way to disseminate ideas and provide a platform for important voices and valuable conversation. The decentralised and accessible attributes of the format allow for many possibilities for the use of this medium, and we are excited to put the knowledge of how to engage with podcasts into the hands of creatives and young people as part of this project.

The project continues with each of the partners set to record their own podcast episodes for sharing—look out for those arriving later in 2025.
