Video profiles of rural entrepreneurs in the East

Short films profiling 10 participants in the Austanátt program.

Why do people in remote and rural villages, towns and farms start new projects or businesses? The answers are diverse. Sometimes it's to pool reasources together and create a community. Like Fræ sköpunareldhús, a shared production kitchen in Stöðvarfjörður, or Setrið, a coworking space for remote workers in Egilsstaðir.

Sometimes it's to help small producers and farmers to get more yield from their produce, like the mobile meat production facility in Fljótsdalshérað. Often it is a way to share a passion or with the community like Ilmbjörkin gardening center or find a way to give back to a place like the fresh bread and pastries being made in Borgarfjörður eystri by Góðan deig

The following short films were produced as part of the Austanátt innovation program with East of Moon designed and implemented for and in collaboration with Austurbrú, the regional development office of the East of Iceland. It was supported by the ministry of Environment.

The films were directed by Arnar Sigurðsson, shot by Patrik Ontkovic and producton managed by Josie Anne Maltinsky Gaitens. They can be seen on this Youtube playlist and embedded below.
